چکیده

Transfer lines are costly assets used for manufacturing of voluminous quantities of a dedicated discrete product following a predefined process plan. This paper deals with the problem of optimal grouping, sequencing and utilization of the dedicated machinery that goes into such transfer lines. A time objective function has been utilized. Handling time, which is an important component of cycle time, is assumed to be comprised of tool change time, time required to reposition and transport the workpiece and refixturing & reloading time. A new mixed integer linear programming model is developed to solve the problem with the aforementioned objectives while respecting a set of constraints, which include machine loading, tool allocation, tool magazine limit, takt time limit and precedence & inclusion constraints. A numerical case study is utilized to illustrate the functionality of the model. © 2014 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. Modeling, Analysis, and Implementation of Logic Controllers for Machining Systems Using Petri Nets and Sfc

The logic control for high-volume machining systems, such as the transfer lines commonly used in the automotive manufacturing industry, must achieve multiple functions in distinct control modes, and thus is quite complex. A methodology for constructing the logic controller using Petri nets is outlined. Each operation in the machining system is assigned either a reversible or irreversible operat...

Modular Machining Line Design and Reconfiguration: Some Optimization Methods

Automated flow-oriented machining lines are typically encountered in the mechanical industry (Groover, 1987; Hitomi, 1996; Dashchenko, 2003). They are also called transfer (or paced) lines, being preferred mainly for the mass production, as they increase the production rate and minimize the cost of machining parts (Hutchinson, 1976). They consist of a linear sequence of multi-spindle machines (...

Industrial Engineering and Computer Sciences Division (G2I) IMPROVEMENT IN SOLVING BALANCING PROBLEMS FOR MACHINING TRANSFER LINES WITH BLOCKS OF PARALLEL OPERATIONS

In the volume 38 of IIE Transactions (2006), Dolgui et al. introduced a line balancing problem in the machining environment, characterized by a number of particularities in comparison with the well-studied assembly line balancing problem, for example, parameterized operation times, non-strict precedence constraints and simultaneous operations performing. An exact method based on MIP formulation...

The Analysis of Experimental Process of Production, Stabilizing and Measurement of the Thermal Conductivity Coefficient of Water/Graphene Oxide as a Cooling Nanofluid in Machining

The abrasion is a significant issue, especially in machining of rigid steels. A functional and suitable approach for enhancing the heat transfer from machining area is using an intermediate fluid with higher heat transfer potential instead of common fluids. The objective of this experimental study is to discuss production, stability and thermal conductivity examination of water/graphene oxide n...

A random search and backtracking procedure for transfer line balancing

The optimal logical layout design for a type of machining transfer lines is addressed. Such transfer lines are made of many machine-tools (workstations) located in sequence. On each workstation there are several spindle-heads. A spindle-head does not execute a single operation but a block of machining operations simultaneously. Spindle-heads of the same workstation are activated sequentially in...
